Since the early 1500's, the area that is now known
as Alabama had been visited by Spanish Conquistadors
on a number of occasions with Hernando de Soto being
one of the most famous of these. It was however,
not until the early 1700's when the area was first
settled by the French and Fort Louis de la Mobile
was built. The French would only control the area
for 61 years before being handed over to the British
under the Treaty of Paris. After the American Revolution
though, Alabama was ceded to the United States and
became the home and at one time the capital of the
Confederacy.
After Booker T. Washington founded the Tuskegee
Institute which allowed George Washington Carver
to carry out his agricultural experimentation, the
state's economy started to improve and by mid century,
Alabama became the starting point of the Civil Rights
Movement when the Montgomery bus service was boycotted
for its mistreatment of minorities.
By the 1990's the advancements in technology thanks
to Sir Tim Berners-Lee's publishing and founding
of the internet, the information age made its way
into Alabama. Now a day, many businesses, persons
and families have their own websites which are based
of the technology improved upon by Berners-Lee.
When the internet first started, making money online
was not allowed and the only technology was crude
and basic. Today this technology which is known
as Hypertext Markup Language or HTML has been vastly
improved and changes in the regulations of the World
Wide Web Consortium have led the way to the ability
for one to use the internet as a means of making
money.
As the times went on, new web languages have been
developed to make websites more appealing to those
who visit them. These advancements include things
like PHP (Personal Home Page as it was originally
called) and Flash (developed originally by Macromedia
and transferred ownership to Adobe after a corporate
buyout), have significantly helped in the interaction
between visitors and webmasters.
By the mid-1990's, web site designers were booming
up everywhere and while some of those designers
have left the industry or transferred specialties;
