Ecommerce (Electronic commerce) which also called the electronic marketing involves buying and selling products and/or services online. Ecommerce has become more popular nowadays with the use of internet. This amazing growth has encouraged more innovations in online transaction processing, data interchange and e-fund transfer. Ecommerce uses the World Wide Web in many aspects though many other technologies are included as well such as email and shopping cart system.

Ecommerce is mainly used for selling virtual items such as memberships and premium access to certain websites. However, ecommerce is also used for buying and selling physical items such as books, computers and more. All major retailers have an ecommerce website and online they are known as e-retailers. There are two types of ecommerce which are:

·         Business to business

·         Business to customer

Business to business ecommerce is usually open to all interested parties. However, it can be limited to specific and pre-qualified participants. In this case, it’s called private electronic market.

Ecommerce is considered to be the sales aspect of e-business and also consists of data exchange, which facilitates the financing and cash transfers of the business. Over the last 30 years, ecommerce has changed and developed. Initially it’s used to facilitate electronic transactions, of course with the help of other technologies such as e-fund transfer and e-data interchange. Another form of ecommerce is the airline reservation systems and it was developed before online shopping was invented in 1979 in the UK. Nowadays, integrity and security are crucial to any kind of ecommerce.
